Malaysia's PM slams at Australia's embassy move to al-QudsAustralia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced early this week that his country would relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to West al-Quds and East al-Quds could be the capital of Palestine.

Malaysia's Prime Minister, who is in Bangkok to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Thailand's Rangsit University, reacted to the announcement last night, saying the holy city has always belonged to the Palestinians.

Australia has no right to divide the holy city and no country can regard al-Quds as belonging to Israel, he added.

Australia decision to follow in US footsteps and relocate its embassy has drawn fire from Muslim countries including Malaysia.

The United Nations as well as most countries across the globe have hit out at moving US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds, considering it illegal and contrary to the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions including resolutions 181 and 242 on al-Quds.

Following the occupation of Palestine in 1948, Arab-Israel war began and it ended with the Zionist regime occupying 78 percent of the Palestinian territories.

Only the eastern part of al-Quds remained under the control of Egypt and Jordan. Under the 1949 agreement between Israel and Jordan, running the eastern part was officially granted to Jordan.

During the six-day Arab-Israeli war in 1967, the eastern part of al-Quds including the old city and the Al-Aqsa mosque were also occupied by the Zionists.
